New TV shows
I've been enjoying the new Showtime show The United States of Tara. Created by Diablo Cody, so it has a little of that annoying Juno-style dialogue, but it's not as concentrated as in the movie (or maybe I'm just getting used to it). Interesting storylines, likable characters, great acting.

Important Things With Demetri Martin starts tonight; Survivor: Tocantins starts tomorrow; and Joss Whedon's new show Dollhouse starts Friday. Any other new shows worth checking out?

Thanks! I hadn't known that Dollhouse was by Whedon. I'll check it out.

Do you watch The Amazing Race? I believe that starts Sunday. Hopefully it won't be as boring as last season...

I watched a couple seasons of it, but it didn't make the cut. As a game, it's just not that interesting, and the exotic locales weren't quite making up for it.

United States of Tara is definitely shaping up to be awesome. I'm very impressed so far. Yeah... that's pretty much all I have to contribute.

How many hours of TV do you watch a week?

I ask because I realize that even if my tastes were identical to yours, when you say "worth watching", it means something like "worth watching if you are going to watch X hours of TV a week". I'm really only interested in "worth watching if you're going to watch 1 hour of TV a week" and possibly "2 per week", though if I had a Tivo, and Tivo'd 2 hours every week, I'd probably fall behind.

Hm, it varies, but I'd say something like 20 hours a week on average, but that includes watching movies on cable. Also, I eat most of my meals alone in front of the TV, so that's multitasking time.

If I only had one hour a week to watch TV, I guess I'd pick the Daily Show, since that's where I get most of my news and laughs. But that's actually 88 minutes a week even after you remove commercials, so I guess I'd have to fast forward through parts of it. Honestly, if I had that little time to watch TV, I'd probably just get rid of my TV altogether and take one extra nap per week or something.
